A collaborative approach

Therapy that starts with you.

You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what is wrong or what you want to change. Counselling can provide a steady, confidential space to slow things down and explore what is happening in your life.

An integrative approach means different therapeutic ideas can be brought together according to your needs, rather than expecting you to fit one fixed model.

Understand

Explore thoughts, emotions, relationships and patterns that may be affecting how life feels now.

Express

Use conversation and, where appropriate, creative or outdoor approaches to find ways of expressing what is difficult to put into words.

Move forward

Develop greater self-understanding, emotional stability, self-trust and a clearer sense of direction.

What counselling can help with

You don't have to have it all figured out.

People seek counselling for many different reasons. Support may be useful when you are experiencing:

  • Anxiety, stress or feeling overwhelmed
  • Low mood or depression
  • Trauma, loss or difficult life experiences
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Neurodiversity-related challenges
  • Self-esteem, identity or confidence difficulties
  • Life transitions or feeling stuck
  • Questions about direction, purpose or what comes next
“You are the expert on your own life. Therapy is a space to understand what you need and consider what might help.”

Sessions can be short-term, long-term or time-limited depending on what is appropriate and agreed together.

Ways of working

Therapy does not have to mean sitting opposite someone in a room.

Walk-and-talk counselling
For some people, walking makes conversation feel more natural. Being outside can create a different kind of space to think and talk.

Telephone counselling
A flexible option if travelling or face-to-face work is not right for you.

Creative and eco-informed work
Where appropriate, creative activity and connection with the natural environment can provide additional ways to reflect, explore and express experience.

Any therapeutic approach will be discussed with you and used only where it is appropriate to your needs.

Self-referral

Start with a conversation.

If something here feels familiar, you are welcome to make contact. An initial conversation is an opportunity to briefly discuss what has brought you to counselling, ask questions and consider whether working together feels right.

Your privacy matters.

This website deliberately does not publish a personal telephone number or email address. The BACP contact form provides a more appropriate route for an initial enquiry. Please avoid putting highly sensitive personal information into an ordinary email or website form.

If you prefer another method of contact, the contact details can be provided directly after an initial enquiry.

A first step

You don't need the right words.

You can simply say that you are considering counselling and would like to talk about whether it might be suitable. There is no need to explain everything in your first message.

Important

Not an emergency service.

Counselling is not a crisis or emergency service. If you are in immediate danger or need urgent mental-health support, contact emergency services on 999, NHS 111, or a relevant urgent mental-health service in your area.
